US Tax Returns
My practice is primarily individual tax returns such as 1040s, 1040NRs, 1040As, and 1040EZs. However, I also have clients who file annual estate and trust returns (1041), ta-exempt organization returns (990-series), and gift (709) returns, too. Of course, I also file the corresponding state returns. My philosophy is “avoid, not evade,” so we can all sleep at night.
My rates are related to the complexity of the return indicated by the number of forms and schedules required. On another page of this website, you will find My Business Basics which will provide information about me, my practice, including contact information, office location, and fee structure, and take you through the process of preparing and filing a return together.
IRS Audits & Collections
It can be terrifying and paralyzing to receive a letter from the IRS. In these situations when one is being questioned about a tax return that has been filed (Audit), asked to make a tax payment (Collections), or asked about a tax year when a tax return was not filed, it can be worthwhile to speak to an expert. It may be you have received correspondence that seems scary, but is actually spam (i.e. not from the IRS at all and should be ignored and reported to the IRS) or is just a standard IRS letter which can be easily managed. Or it could be a serious matter requiring delicate negotiations of the IRS or state tax system. I can help you make that determination and hold your hand through the steps.
My fee for this work is billed on an hourly rate of $75.
ITIN Applications
Foreigners often have a reason to be included on someone else’s return (e.g. a spouse or dependent) or to file their own tax return (having US-source income). In order to do so, however, they must have an IRS processing number – called the Individual Tax Identification Number or ITIN. The form is relatively simple, but the process can be challenging to those who are not familiar with what is required under the variety of situations that might exist. It can help to have an expert who knows the procedures and can save you time and frustration.
My fee for this service is $275 for the first application and $200 for each one thereafter in a family.
EIN Applications
When you are a foreigner establishing a US business, it can seem impossible to get an EIN. It can feel like a Catch 22 situation – do you need an ITIN to get an EIN and if so, how can you do that? Well, the answer is that you do not need an ITIN initially and it is quicker to get an EIN. But in order to do so, you will need to know the specific steps in order to be successful. Having an EIN within 2 weeks, means having your vendors and clients feel immediately more comfortable in working with you, because they know you intend to comply with US tax laws.
My fee for this service is $250.
