About

Kimberly E. Morris, MBA, EA, CAA

Who I Am.

I became an Enrolled Agent in 2009. Enrolled Agents (EAs) have been described as the gold standard for tax preparers. Like attorneys and CPAs, we EAs can represent clients before the IRS for Collection and Audit matters, as well as preparing tax returns. Enrolled Agents are the only tax preparers that are specifically tested on tax law.

We must pass three exams on individual, corporate, partnership, trust and estate returns and professional ethics (under Treasury Circular 230).

We must also adhere to strict continuing education requirements to ensure that we remain up to date on tax laws and ethics. I am also a Certified Acceptance Agent, which means I can assist with W-7 individual tax identification number (ITIN) applications for foreigners with US source income or foreign spouses and dependents.

Before becoming an EA, I was an Internal Auditor with the International Division of ARCO, a Financial Controller with RTZ in Indonesia, a Business Consultant in Indonesia, a professional genealogist in Raleigh, and built houses in Mexico. So, I am a financial, detail-oriented person familiar with living abroad.

I received my MBA from University of Texas at Austin and my undergraduate degree in Psychology from Colorado College.

My Practice.

Living and working in San Miguel de Allende in central Mexico, my clients include retirees who have come to live out their retirement years in this paradise, Mexicans who are the spouses and dependents of US citizens or have US-source income to report from businesses and rentals, and businesses on both sides of the border. I also have clients who have returned to the USA or have moved on to other foreign locations and prefer to continue working with me – someone they have come to know and trust when tax time rolls around.

My Helpers

Christopher “Kit” Morris, my son, helps me with administrative duties like filing, but most importantly is completely bilingual, so he helps me with Spanish translations over the phone and in writing. He is now an adult and has a job, so he is no longer working as an employee, but he will continue working as needed as a contractor.
